Sevilla

Seville and Andalusia have always been a land desired by different civilizations. Fall in love with the historic centre, lorded over by a colossal Gothic cathedral, Mudéjar palaces, baroque churches and winding medieval lanes. Don’t miss out a night full of tradition with the most representative dance in Spain “Flamenco” the dance is known for its emotional intensity, proud carriage, and expressive use of the arms and rhythmic stamping of the feet. On November 16, 2010, UNESCO declared flamenco one of the Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity.

Seville’s cathedral, Santa Maria de la Sede, is the largest Gothic cathedral in the world, and is recognized as UNESCO World Heritage. The cathedral’s construction lasted over a century, from 1401 to 1506.

The Giralda is the bell tower of the Cathedral of Seville. The Giralda is the former minaret of the mosque that stood on the site under Muslim rule, and was built to resemble the minaret of the Koutoubia Mosque in Marrakech, Morocco.

Jerez de la Frontera (1.15h. from Sevilla)

Jerez, located 15 km inland from the beaches of the Costa de la Luz, is internationally known for its wine production, horses, flamenco, fiestas and its important historical and artistic heritage. Part of its name, de la Frontera, means “of the frontier” because it was on the border between Islamic and Christian populations.

Alcazar de Jerez

The Alcazar was originally the residence of the Muslim rulers before the land was reconquered by the Christians. After the conquest of the fortress in 1261, it was put under the command of Nuño González de Lara. Later, it was turned into a church dedicated to the Virgin Mary by King Alfonso X of Castile.  The Alcazar is one of a few structures that best exemplify Almohad architecture in the Iberian Peninsula.

La Cartuja (Charterhouse of Santa María de la Defensión)

Its architecture is of a Late Gothic style, corresponding to the start of construction in the 15th century, with Baroque aspects. The building, completed in the 17th century, has been designated by the Spanish government as a Historic-Artistic Monument. It was declared Heritage of Cultural Interest in 1856.

Sentenil de las Bodegas and Ronda (1.45h from Sevilla)

This town grew out of a network of caves in the cliffs above the rio Trejo north-west of Ronda. Its blinding white house’s seem to emerge from the rocks, and some have rock roofs and even olive groves on their roofs.

Ronda is one of the oldest towns in Spain; the town is essentially divided into two main districts: the town itself, which is older and does not extend very far in a southerly direction, and the Mercadillo district, which is also an old quarter but has been expanded with the introduction of modern buildings.

White Villages (1.30h. from Sevilla)

UBRIQUE, EL BOSQUE, PRADO DEL REY

If you like the idea of discovering the province’s interior, the narrow streets of Arabic origins and the typical white villages of Andalusia, you mustn’t miss out on visiting few of them.
